Aztec/Maya Cosmology: 2004-2012

When space/time is dilated by extension, swirling in every direction available, moving every astral and cosmic body with its mighty gravitational arms and legs, we must remember that we are lost in that enigmatic ocean of spirit and corporal consciousness – The Milky Way. And our sense of what is ‘central’ or at some cosmic edge of this manifestation is relative to us alone. Through ‘procession’ we are watching everything move in a dance of the cosmic-past, since we view everything by where it ‘was’, not where it ‘is’. And as Greek gods serve the skies in this era of time – billions, millions, thousands of years ago – it sparkled in another location of the skies. This is our now, not the now of the ancients. And these are the gods of their world, echoing in today, and probably drawn from something we can no longer identify or remember.

Thus, the current confusion over the cosmology of the Aztec/Maya is merely a sign of the times. There will be much added to this topic in due time but, for now, let’s consider some basic events that will allow us some insight on where we are…

I have many reflections on this but, let’s start with the very real possibility that even the Bible, as we have it, is drawn from what we began with on this side of several earthbound age changes, from ice to wind, to fire and rain – this world and its skies have changed, a lot – and so there was and is need to change how we recorded the history of the preceding age(s) into the next. By recent astronomical evidence it is more than suggested that the stars of Orion, as a constellation, is rather recent in our cosmic library, and that in the end of the past age, it took position in the sky (as seen today) incidentally, after a very disturbing global event – possibly, a global shift during post ice-age flooding. And although there is no real reason to accept a global flood as heightened as the Noah story – for at that scale there is so much water in the atmosphere, high above every mountainous territory, with no land in sight, they would have literally drowned as they breathed. Leaving it to ‘time’ to move the land-masses and oceans, with all geo-physical relationships being tossed and turned through so many latitudes, the stellar figures of any myth that goes with them have been altered by man into the present.

For example, for the Aztec-Maya, the old ‘sun’ had to be replaced as a new aligned system of the heavens unfolded in a day when it was observed by mankind in the Yucatan; a day that reflects change at the greatest level. Here I will offer a rather strange coincidence that takes place on the other side of the Mayan world. What of the biblical event when the length of day was extended for Joshua to fight a major battle at Gibeon? [Joshua 10:1-15] Was Joshua given insight to such an event, or could he possibly have had the astrological knowledge to predict such an event and timed his military maneuvers on it? Could these two events be connected somehow, recorded in different ways, the same astral occurrence seen in two different global events; for on this day, of astral positions moving, as a new earthly axis was set in place, did the day actually last longer on the other side of the world as it kept the Mayan world in darkness? One doesn’t have to consider a major axial shift [any more than +/- 6 degrees] to move the pole star above/below the horizon in regard to the equatorial geophysical location of the Yucatan to effect the length of day/night or to upset areas of the world where human populations may have existed.

Did a geo-physical, axial shift occur such that day and night were lengthened and both earthly and astral positioning were cosmically repositioned? This relationship is more than feasible, since the Mayan cosmic trees have two variable distinctions to them, where the time factor doesn’t correspond well to Mayan dating of creation events, or even the accepted historical biblical timeline. This is where the August, 3114BC dating comes in, by what is referred to as the “Black Transformer”, an astral event where none of the planets were visible to the Yucatan; and it appeared as if the “gods” had left them in the dark. This in turn is relative to having a cleared blackboard of the nigh-time skies overhead – an implied new beginning of time, the birth of the so called 4th World.

Flood events can be tied into the Mayan timeline and provide a situation where the preceding world may have left something behind that evolved into their organic view of creation. Although this may sound presumptuous of me, there is evidence to support this idea. Sometime during the late 4th millennium the global geological evidence reveals a line of evidence called the Piora Oscillation that marks an abrupt cold and wet period in the climate history of the Holocene Epoch [c. 3500 to 3000 BCE]. Some associate this with the closing of the Atlantic climate regime and the start of the Sub-Boreal climate that is evident in certain plant forms. The phenomenon is named after the Val Piora, or Piora Valley in Switzerland, where it was first detected; some of the most dramatic evidence of this ‘event’ come from the high region of the Swiss Alps, a notable north-western region to the Persian lands of Noah. Glaciers then advanced in the Alps, apparently for the first time since the Holocene Climatic Optimum, and the Alpine tree line dropped by 100 meters, extending far beyond the Alps and Europe. It even affected what is now the New England region of North America, where hemlock and elm trees suffered a dramatic growth decline. In the Middle East, the surface of the Dead Sea rose nearly 100 meters (300 feet) then receded to a more usual level.

Of course, many researchers have associated the climate changes of this period with the floods of the Gilgamesh Epic and Noah’s flood of the Book of Genesis. While much of the most blatant evidence of the Piora Oscillation relate to extensive cold and flooding, as the effects of the period were multifarious and included a few centuries of extensive drought in East Africa. A Greenland Ice Core [GISP2] shows a sulfate spike and methane trough, c. 3250 BCE, suggesting an unusual occurrence — either a volcanic eruption, or a comet/asteroid impact event. Other authorities associate the Piora Oscillation with other comparable events, like the 8.2 kilo-year event, that occur several times in climate history as part of a larger 1500-year climate cycle. And with every 5000-6000 (aprox.) years of time we have events of spiritual and physical importance unfold before us.

Still, what this all suggests is that some critical earth event led to the age we are currently experiencing, such that the earth was wound up in some physical experience that decided to unfold into disaster, and humankind was forced to change its course of destiny. This is not so difficult to rationalize since we are now once again considering that our own presence, by sheer population numbers and the effect that it carries, is rearing the Dragon’s Head once more, and we are now at the doorstep of our own destruction or evolutionary “warping”. First off, then, how do we determine the length of a galactic cycle, and where do the borders within begin and end?

It is my observation of the evidences that many authors and such are mistaken about the calendrics [GMT Dating System] of the Aztec/Maya Calendar. Considering their attention to detail, in regard to the mythology presented in the Popol Vuh [The Sacred Book of the Quiche Maya], and their fascination with certain planetary cycles and stars, that the event know as the Galactic Crossing of 2012 may have occurred in the winter of 2007, in the midst of the Venusian Solar Crossing [an 8 yr. cycle]. This in turn is set in a wider 24 year window, where the solar crossing through the galactic center can’t be defined or assigned to a single specific year – it is a portion of an even wider ‘astral season’ relative to our solar system and its position within the stellar disk of the Milky Way. There is much to consider here for this event, and it is my impression that in 2012 the “Family” members of the Maya creation mythology just aren’t present in the skies, but, they are in 2007, and in a critical gathering that reflects the creation theme set in the Popol Vuh.

Due to relativity, the speed of the Milky Way varies when compared with specific objects at variable distances in space. Our Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxy are approaching each other with a speed of about 130 km/s – although they won’t collide for another 5 billion years.  The Milky Way and its neighbors are moving at 600 km/s in the direction of the constellation Hydra (Scientific American). It moves through space within the cluster of galaxies it is a member of, likewise, this cluster moves through space towards yet another larger cluster of galaxies in the direction of the constellation Virgo. This speed is approximately 300 km/s, where the speed of the Milky Way is never a single number – its value always being relative to the motion of other objects.

The Sun is moving towards Lambda Herculis at 20 km/s, or 12 miles per second; roughly 72,000 kilometers per hour, or 45,000 miles per hour. This speed is comparative to a state of rest, as if the other stars were standing still. A 3D illustration of the Sun’s movement through the Galaxy is more complicated, rising above the plane of the Milky Way at a speed of 7 kilometers per second. Currently, the Sun lies 50 light-years above the mid-plane of the galactic disk, steadily progressing outward, even as the gravitational pull of the stars in the galactic plane is slowing down its progress. The astronomer Frank Bash estimates that in 14 million years the sun will reach maximum height above the galactic disk, and from a point 250 light-years above the galactic plate, it will begin to fall back towards the principal plane of the galaxy. Passing through, it will travel to a point 250 light-years below the disk, then oscillate upwards again to reach its present position, approximately 66 million years from now. Our solar system crossed the plane almost 2 million years ago, with it currently rising through the northern medial-portion of the galactic disk. Our view of the cosmic landscape is somewhat blocked by astral dust but, 10-20 million years from now, our position higher above the galactic plate will allow an amazing view of our starry galaxy in the evening skies.

The sun’s galactic central distance is approximately 25,000 light-years out – plus or minus 2,000 light-years. The Sun/Earth position within the galactic plane is around two thirds of the way out from the center, on the inner edge of the Orion–Cygnus Arm, with the majority of the galaxy being seen edge on. The galaxy is estimated to be 100,000 light-years in diameter, with our system about halfway out from center. If you have a good idea of the Sun’s distance from the Galactic Core, then the solar system’s speed can be approximated. Using measurements of astral gas at different distances from the center, the Sun appears to be cruising along at 200 kilometers per second and takes 240 million years to complete the grand circuit around the galaxy, as an absolute speed. This is about 20 million earth years per each cosmic partition – based in a 12 point division around the galactic table, similar to the numbered points of a clock. If we consider the Aztec use of 13×20 time table it calculates to roughly 14.5 million earth years per galactic partition. This then calculates to about 1/4thof the time given to human existence; and we have traversed ninety degrees worth of the rotation of the galactic disk for a human presence on earth. This barely scratches the surface of the cosmic iceberg in regard to one galactic year’s worth of cosmic rotation.

Variable boundaries expressed in Hellenistic concepts of constellations and zodiacal signs do not coincide with very much of the Mayan Cosmology, and are poor expressions of Aztec/Mayan star signs. Changes have occurred within the zodiac over the last 2600 years that perpetuate difference in cyclic borders. Astral signs have been distorted and moved away from constellations that their names originated from. When the sun is in Aries, at vernal equinox, it is nowhere near the stars of Aries the Ram. It actually resides within Pisces that the astrological orientation considers as the Age of Pisces, symbolically the Age of Christ Consciousness. When cyclic movement resided in Aries it had cyclic residence in the Age of the Ram. It’s is then possible that the Hebrew (Habiru) Exodus speaks in terms of the Golden Calf [or Taurian Age], symbolic of an age prior that had to be dissolved to embrace the shift in human consciousness; thus, they were ‘taken/removed’ from a conscious bondage to a fated stage of human evolution. And monotheism becomes a collective ideal drawn from polytheism. This is a perfect example of how the human condition ‘graduates’, or evolves towards divine development. Notice then, how this has nothing to do with forward or backward motion in regard to evolution that is simply engaged in ‘progressive-change’.

Eventually, the vernal equinox will merge into Aquarius; the so called heralding of the true New Age in regard of an innovative galactic cycle. Moria Timms, an independent Egyptologist, presents a viable construct of the Age of Aquarius as being one of ‘promise’, with the Piscean Age closing an age of ‘self-undoing’. The breadth of the Piscean, having a historical ‘savior’ in Christ Consciousness, has had us “trapped in orbit, as it were, around materialism, competitiveness and limitation”. The uncertain termination of this cosmic age is the “birth pangs” of a “mighty labor” to induce the new age. Believers of the Aquarian Age – derived from the 1960’s musical hit, “Hair” – defend this ideal, despite undeniable astronomical evidence. The boundary between the constellations Pisces and Aquarius, adopted by the International Astronomical Union [1928] suspend the crossing until 2614AD. And Pisces will have to bear the weight of “The End of Days” for six more centuries before we are cosmically baptized in the spiritual waters of Aquarius.

At the ‘spiritual’ level of time, this is nothing. For the physical worlds, it’s like holding ones breath. With such observations, how does one justify the Mayan 2012 prophecies as being so fatalistic, or is that just a marketing trigger to sell books, movies and global panic? Oddly enough, the human mind seems to love a good horror story, embracing it to its own demise. Still, the real problem here is the echo of mistranslation of; the Dresden Codex [11th-12th century reprints], a viable series of astronomical tables of the moon and Venus; the Book of Chilam Balam of Tizimin [17th-18th century]; and the Popul Vuh [Book of The people]; that all contain information about Mayan religion, history, rituals, folklore, medicine, and astronomy. The primary features of these works present prominent divine features in a creation myth based in the epic tale of the Hero Twins, Hunahpú and Xbalanqué, and its genealogies. The myth includes the exploits of anthropomorphic ancestors and concludes with the birth of a regal genealogy, an assertion of divine right rule similar to that of the Egyptians and Atlantis [Plato: TimaeusCritias]. These historical manuscripts, as with many other old world works, are taken far more literally than are meant for modern day, and authors build 21st century thinking on their poetic and illustrative ideals; a thought process that carries inadequate examples of ancient concepts.

However, there may be more to the solar crossing of our galactic core than first meets the eye. Considering the Eden Factor– and the probable positioning of our system in regard to the historic arrival of human spirit/flesh – the divine cosmic clock for us may have begun in the region of Aries, as the primordial Eastern Providence of the galactic disk of the Milky Way. The literal translation for the term ‘Eden’ is “paradise; something that our galactic design represents considering so many other galaxies of variable construction. The fact that our Milky Way is fashioned unlike so many other galaxies allows one to consider that our galactic disk itself is a cosmic Divine Eden, and the earthly rivers mentioned in scripture contrive a Four Wind diagnosis of cosmic residence in earthly terms; presenting the ideal of heaven on earth.

With this in mind, many tribal mythologies of creation are deeply rooted in common cosmic designs. In light of this possibility, the Mayan Calendar and its exploitation of cosmic features to illustrate Creation through astral relationships may conceptualize our returning to a point of ‘origin’ that is completing the sequence of a galactic cycle since our solar systems astral conception. This also includes the possibility of ‘reincarnations’ expressed in human spirit as a runner within the galactic cycle that has brought hundreds of earthbound civilizations into historical view, with each rising and falling in accordance to the sequence of ages as we have traversed the evolution of the galactic cycle. Thus, the Mayan revelation is one of cyclic occurrence expressed in the return of Quetzalcoatl [The Feathered Serpent] that is of Aztec depiction – not Mayan – as their view of the heavens in Aries. This so called god of creation may very well have much more ancient origins, shared from Olmec concepts (or possibly – Atlantean) that define their cosmology of Aries.

But how does this mythology reflect real-world incidence? This will be the theme of this area, in hopes to bring some light to an already highly convoluted modern “fear” factor.
